When should you start monetarizing your blog?

Postby penvro » Sun Dec 06, 2009 9:32 pm

You should start monetizing your blog rite from day one it is online . But make sure you do not put too many ads that your content is hidden in between ads . From the beginning 80% of your site should consist of content and rest can be ads . Then as your blog content and traffic both grows, you can increase the no of adverts to get a better return . It is no harm in putting ads on a very new site which gets little to no exposure.

Thanks kashif, one reason I haven't done it is that I don't want to smother my content in ads and spoil how it looks. If there's a way of controlling how many ads you have then that's great. You can tell I'm quite new to this, lol!

When should you start monetarizing your blog?

Postby lifton » Sun Dec 06, 2009 9:45 pm

a week after i created my blog, i signed up for adsense. i tell my friends to click the ads. hahah. but they don't do. i think the perfect time to monetize a blog, is when it has traffic and links. and i think some sites require a month or two to accept your blog. i remember once, my blog is 3 weeks old, i signed up for smorty and i got rejected, for blogsvertise but i'm under probation.

Thanks for your answer karkiks. That's interesting about the different sites, but I'm not sure what they all are! I'll have to Google smorty and blogvertise to find out. Perhaps you got rejected because your blog wasn't old enough? I've heard of this happening with things like pay per post.

I think it is never too early to monetize your blog if it is really what you want, if you created a blog to earn some extra money, then by all means apply for a google adsense account as early as you can, but I suggest that you post at least 10 entries on your site before you do. Aside from google adsense, there are other advertising programs that you can look into, there's bidvertiser, adbrite, adtoll, chitika, widgetbucks, performancing ads, and the list go on. Regional advertising companies such as century asia, nuffnang, advertlets and blog2u is also available and ready for your perusing. Have a look at every advertising opportunity you know before you take the plunge and sign up, choose the one that will fit you and your blog.

Thanks a lot for your answer and your advice. I started the blog primarily to get my thoughts down and share my experiences, but I'd also like to earn some pennies if I can. And I'd like to show some relevant (good) products on there, which fit in with the subject and feel of my blog, and which might also help other stay-at-home mums!So there's a bit to think about, and I'll look into all the sites that you've recommended. Thanks for sharing them with me
