Do you need to know multiple programming languages to land up in a good IT job?

Postby wilburt » Mon Dec 14, 2009 4:30 am

I am doing a software engineering diploma and as of now I have already done IT Fundamentals,Programming Logic and Technique(flow-charts),C# Programming Language,VC#,T-SQL(Microsoft SQL Server 2005),Data Structures And Algorithms,XML,Java Programming Language along with AWT and JDBC,ADO.NET,Unified Modeling Language,Intel VTunes as part of my course and currently I am doing ASP.NET and J2ME. Since I have been taught a vast array of technologies and tools I want to streamline the process-The first thing I need to ask is do I need to know multiple programming languages to land up in a good job or should I get expertise in one and concentrate more on the logical part, secondly out of the list that I have written down what all should I look into again specifically so that I can get a good job,my intern interview is in December, please help me out.

While it never hurts to have multiple weapons in your arsenal, it's best to be expert in a few things rather than a jack-of-all-trades. My suggestion would be to find out what language(s) your intern company uses ASAP and concentrate on them.
