I want to create a blog for a medical journal I've created. I would love to have those in the medical community to be able to subscribe to it. I was thinking about using Wordpress, but I'm not sure if this is my best option (I'm extremely worried about my blog being hacked). Also, if I did decide to choose Wordpress should I install it on my local server, or just have Wordpress host it?
Thanks for your advice! :)
Is Wordpress my best option for a blog that I want many to subscribe to?

Ok so first there are the free blogs:
http://en.wordpress.com/signup/
and
http://www.blogger.com/
If you go with a free one, I suggest blogger. It will allow you to sell stuff and place ads, while Wordpress won't. Your web address will be something like: http://medical-journal.blogger.com
paid blog:
This is just like a web site. You host it with a web server, you install the Wordpress scripts on it. You basically then own the blog. Doing this is easy, here is a guide to installing Wordpress on a server: http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-make-your-own-blog
security: If you keep your version of Wordpress updated, you won't get hacked. Also with the free options, very unlikely.

Wordpress is pretty popular. The only thing that you might like more is Blogspot, which belongs to Google. Maybe make one of each and keep the one that is easier to use.

I would say host it yourself, then you have full control and can use all of the functionality such as running it as a members only site.
This can be done with different plugins.
Good Luck
